# Profiles

> Keep history, sign-ins, cookies and extensions separate between Spaces.

## What a Profile keeps apart

A Profile has its own history, saved passwords, cookies, extensions and Favorites. Every Space uses one Profile, and a Profile can be used by several Spaces. Use separate Profiles to stay signed in to two accounts of the same site, or to keep work and personal browsing apart.

## Create and manage Profiles

Open **Settings ▸ Profiles**.

- **+** under the list creates a Profile; the edit button renames it.
- **−** deletes a Profile, after you type its name to confirm. Deleting removes its cookies, history, preferences and logins from this Mac. The Default Profile cannot be deleted, and a Profile cannot be deleted while a Space uses it.

## Give a Space a Profile

Choose the Profile when you create the Space, or right-click the Space name and choose another Profile.

## Settings per Profile

Each Profile has its own:

- **Search engine** and search suggestions
- **Archive tabs after**: how long Today tabs stay (see [Today and the archive](/help/archive))
- **Download location**
- Privacy and Security, Passwords, Credit Cards, Notifications and Autofill pages, and **Clear Browsing Data**

The Profile's data pages open in a tab of a Space that uses it.

## Profiles and sync

Profiles are not synced between Macs. A synced Space uses the Default Profile on a Mac that does not have its Profile.
