# Organizing your sidebar

> Spaces, Favorites, pinned tabs, folders and Today tabs, and a few habits that keep the sidebar tidy.

## How the sidebar is laid out

From top to bottom:

- **Favorites**: icons for the sites you use most. They are shared by every Space that uses the same Profile.
- **Pinned tabs and folders**: what you come back to in this Space. They stay until you remove them.
- **The divider**, with **Clear** on its right.
- **Today tabs**: everything you open along the way. They are archived after they have been idle for a while (see [Today and the archive](/help/archive)).
- **The Space dock** at the bottom: one icon per Space, and **+** to make a new one.

## Spaces

Make one Space for each part of your life: work, home, a class, a project. Each Space has its own pinned tabs, Today tabs, theme color and icon.

- Create one with **+** in the dock or **Spaces ▸ New Space…**.
- Switch with `⌃1`–`⌃9`, `⌥⌘←` / `⌥⌘→`, a click in the dock, or a two-finger swipe on the sidebar.
- Right-click the Space name to rename it, change its theme color and icon, choose its Profile (**Set Profile**), or delete it. Deleting a Space archives its tabs.
- Rearrange Spaces by dragging their dock icons, or in the Library (`⇧⌘L`) ▸ Spaces.

## Pinned tabs

Pin what you return to. Drag a tab above the divider, or press `⌘D`. Unpin with `⌘D` again.

A pinned tab remembers the page you pinned. If you wander off, **Reset Tab to Original URL** (right-click the tab) takes it back. The **—** button on a pinned tab closes its page but keeps the pin in place.

## Folders

Right-click in the pinned area and choose **New Folder…**, then drag tabs into it. Folders can hold other folders. Hover over a closed folder for a quick list of what is inside.

## Favorites

Drag a tab into the grid at the top of the sidebar to make it a Favorite. Favorites are the same in every Space of a Profile, so they suit mail, calendars and chat.

## Today tabs and Clear

Today tabs collect everything you open. Click **Clear** on the divider (`⇧⌘K`) to archive all of them at once. Nothing is lost: archived tabs are in **Archive ▸ View Archive…** and the command bar finds them.

## Keep it tidy

- Pin only what you open every week; let the rest live in Today.
- Use a Space per context rather than one long list.
- Give a Space its own [Profile](/help/profiles) to keep its sign-ins apart.
- Put two to four pages side by side with [Split View](/help/split-view) instead of switching back and forth.
- Use `⌃Space` (Reveal Current Tab) to find the selected tab in a long sidebar.
